Rumsfeld's introductory remarks also included a few jokes:

"You know, both my parents were chinese and when I was born they named me Sum Ting Wong."

The crowd's less than enthusiastic reaction sent him searching for a better punch line:

"When I was young and my friends and I would play cowboys and indians, I was always a Chinese railroad laborer."

At this point two more gongs were sounded and Chuck Barris introduced the next speaker.
