Taking a nod from Kyle MacDonald, the man who traded up from one red paperclip and eventually managed to get a house (no money exchanged along the way), Detroit blogger Matthew Tobey has decided try something similar. Except, instead of starting with a something stupid like a paperclip, he's starting with an iPod.
The way Tobey sees it, if MacDonald could turn a half-cent paperclip into a $134,000 house, then he should be able to turn a $150 used iPod into something valued at $3,257,299,200. The question, then, is what the final trade should be…
"At first I considered a human being, maybe Steve Buscemi. It seems like I could easily trade up to Steve Buscemi for $3 billion, probably even $2.6 billion. Mostly I'd want him to just hang out with me and buy me cool presents (he'd have something worth around $3 billion, so he could totally afford it). Unfortunately the Emancipation Proclamation went and peed on that parade."
So, if you think you've got something worth trading for an iPod, check out Tobey's site and get in on the action. (If you're Steve Buscemi, and you want an iPod, like, really bad, we recommend you think this deal through before proceeding.)
