As a staff of mostly effete New Yorkers it's hard for us at the CC Insider to imagine a place whose political colors run deep purple. Evidently that place is Evansville Indiana, where readers of the Courier & Press have launched a spirited defense of both Garry Trudeau's Doonesbury and Bruce Tinsley's Mallard Fillmore comic strips.

In fact, one reader's ire was directed at the less political funny page stalwarts:

"… I know I speak for at least half a dozen of my family members when I say, 'Please keep these two (that actually challenge you to think) and, if you must, drop some of the hideously repetitive, one-note and out-of-date selections you have on your comics page, such as 'Blondie,' 'Peanuts,' 'Snuffy Smith' and 'Beetle Bailey.'

Wait, someone finds Snoopy more offensive than Doonesbury and Mallard Fillmore?

*This is a parody from America: The Book and not an actual Mallard Fillmore strip – although IT MIGHT AS WELL BE.
