CityRag brings us a mockumentary from 1999 about Derrick "Hands" Wilson, professional clapper. It co-stars Mary Lynn Rajskub and Brian Posehn, and it's awesome:

When I saw this, I just cried. As a retired clapper, myself, I understand the ups and downs of the clapping world. Inspired by the song "Car Wash" I entered Clapping College 30 years ago and graduated Clappa Cum Laude. I worked my way up from children's albums ("Down by the Station" was my BIGGEST children's hit) all the way up to the height of my career when I clapped for Eddie Rabbit's "I Love a Rainy Night."

But, the entertainment industry seduced me with the drugs and the night life, and I soon found myself unable to show up for clapping gigs. I knew I hit an all time low when I was hired with a group of other "retired" clappers to clap and yell "Move that Bus" for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

I may never get a second chance in the clapping industry, but I have memories to pass on to my own grandchildren as I teach them the family trait of clapping.

R.I.P. Derrick Wilson, and know that your claps will live on forever in my world.
