Well, here's a first: last night, Senator and 2008 Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd appeared as a guest on The Daily Show, and blogged the entire experience (including green room video of the Senator and Jon) on his website. This was a fascinating look behind the scenes of the show even for us, and a surprisingly cool thing for a Presidential candidate to do. Senator Dodd, we salute both your commitment to fiscal responsibility and your web-savvy.
After the jump, Senator Dodd's appearance on the show last night.
Running for President is like competing on American Idol:
Hey Comedy Central Fans I have a book recommendation for you. It is called "The Fall of the House of Bush" by Craig Unger.
The recent release of the NIE report makes this very timely reading!

I am a straw buyer who got cash back on fourteen speculative purchases and I need a bailout fast. Thank you Senator Dodd, you have my vote.
Hey Dodd!!! HELP ME!!! I make 25K a year and thought it was a great idea to buy a 500K home. The lenders (your buddies at the bank) thought it was a good idea too.
Who would have thunk it? Turns out I can't afford this house after all! WAAAAAA…..WAAAA….
My kids and I REFUSE to rent a place. We want to be HOMEDEBTORS gosh darn it!
Please won't you help me screw all those responsible people out there who refused to buy into the overinflated RE market?
It will really help your buddies at the bank too because if you don't help me stay here, you know what I'll do?
I'll squat here the next 6 months without paying my mortgage, save the money and go out and rent a place with the savings after the foreclosure.

Connect the dots, pal! Senator Dodd is posing as a typical Democratic liberal do-gooder, trying to save subprime borrowers from losing their homes. But if you look at the list of his campaign contributors, you get the real picture, as it is Wall Street investment banks who would really take a hit if subprime lending suddenly went out of fashion. It is all about making sure the banking industry's parasites maintain access to their hosts' (read low-income subprime borrowers — blacks, hispanics, etc) blood. And sending a little bit of blood Senator Dodd's way to help him get elected. And of course, he will force anyone who had nothing to do with the subprime disaster to funnel in money to keep Wall Street's scam lending operation going.
I know this sounds depressing, but I have 100% confidence that you and/or Stephen Colbert can find a comedic silver lining in the subprime mess. I am counting on you guys, as my good mood depends on it!

"The Cocoanuts"
I quit my job 4 years ago with a tech firm to go into real estate. I started off as a Realtor and was making a killing, then eventually starting buying and flipping condos in Miami with interest only loans. I've made over $3 Million in the past 3 years flipping condos, but right now I'm stuck holding 7 condos I can't unload and my loan payments are starting to pile up. I really need to restructure my loans and really hope that Dodd considers professional real estate speculators like me in his bail-out package – we are the ones who take risks and make the economy grow, not those poor working stiffs stuck in the rat race who actually believe that work is noble.
I bought 32 single family homes throughout the Sacramento area with no money down, no doc interest only loans. I have rented the majority of the homes to illegal immigrants. Everything was hunky dory until my mortgages starting re-setting and now I may have to lose some of my homes to foreclosure and go back to work (I was living off the rental income from my illegal immigrant renters). I REALLY, REALLY need this bail out package from Chris Dodd so I don't have to go back to work. DODD, PLEASE BAIL ME OUT FAST!!!
So the name of the game with elections is that a bunch people who know they won't win because the winner was decided way back when,(hint what comes after Bush usually? Right! Clinton. These other people just run make a bunch of promises they will never have to keep and they know that…that's why the promises sound so promising and we send them 1000's of dollars for the next year or so…that they just get to keep? Is that how it works?
Senator Dodd's proposal to bail out overlevered subprime borrowers is the single most outrageous legislative proposal I've ever heard of. What's next – a bail out package for gamblers who've lost it all in Vegas? There are MILLIONS of renters who have patiently saved their money waiting for the inevitable housing correction and opted NOT to take out risky mortgage products such as negative amortizing loans or 100% LTV Option ARMs. Dodd's legislation doesn't do anything to make housing more affordable, rather, its simply a bail out package for the investment banks and subprime originators – such as Accredited Home Lenders (Ticker Symbol: LEND) up 33% today after Dodd's CRAZY talk yesterday.
Dodd is either a freakin' moron or completely corrupt. Anyone who took macroeconomics 101 in college would know that you can't artificially prop up an asset bubble through government intervention indefinitely, EVENTUALLY all markets correct – Dodd's initiative would simply delay the inevitable and make the correction all the more painful. I suspect Dodd is simply doing a favor for his investment banking pals who have bet the freakin' farm on subprime.
Well, Dodd should know that the Angry Renters of America (AROA) – a rapidly growing faction of the Democratic Party composed of disenchanted high wage earning renters who can't afford to buy a home but are paying taxes out the freakin' whazoo – are organizing to destroy his political future. EAT IT DODD!!
It is truly amazing to see Jon Stewart, my hero, sell out to 3, 4, 5 and almost 6 term senators! I thought only the Supreme Court was a life appointment. How many of these old farts in the Senate are past their expiration date? Doesn't Anyone in the US see the irony that a President only gets TWO terms but Congress just gets to linger around like a fart in an elevator? The funny thing is, since Congress sets the laws, they established the term limit for the president. Dare they to police themselves and establish congressional term limits. All the crap that has happened in the past 20 years has happened because the SAME OLD FARTS are in congress. Anyone who believes that Dodd, McCain, and others have any sense of reality needs to have a reality check themselves. And to see Sir Jon Stewart patronizing these guys is just too much.
I'm sorry Jon, but you've lost your touch. No more hard hitting questions. No more in your face stuff. All we get now is cheesy satire and innuendo. All you can do is bash the President (yes, he deserves bashing) and no real commentary about real issues.
Very good appearance, and he won me over and got me to pay a little more attention to him. I'm still rooting for my boy Edwards, followed by Barack, but I at least like him better than Hillary.
YAY!!!
Another old rich white man running for f*cking president.
I thought that Dodd did a good job with Jon — came across very real, very engaged and consistant with his past positions (unlike that well-known "maverick" McCain and the stealth Republican Joltin' Joementum Lieberman). He would make a credible presidential candidate, if Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton hadn't sucked all the oxygen and the money out of the room. Notice, by the way, that no one mentions John Edwards and poor Dennis Kucinich!
Chris Dodd apperaring in his freshly powdered wig and his neatly pressed Bipartisan suit appeared on Jon Stewarts the Daily show. After weeks and weeks of being subjected to no sleep camp and repeating ever single word three times in a high pitched voice.
Dodd cracked and threw his hat in the presidential circle, ring whatever.
Unlike John McCain he can actully articulate the four points to his campaign. Safety Education, Leadership in Iraq, and toilet training. He really wants to be out of the house and out on the stump when that shit goes down.
Oh thats wrong its Jobs he really really wants a new one.
If you want he will repeat his platform again and again in a high pitched sing song voice. Big J little J what begins with j?
My neck its full of juggling gerbils, fun isn't it? The kids love it.
lol
