According to UK comedy guide Chortle, BBC America is dropping the venerable Benny Hill from its program(me?) schedule. Fans of the saucy cheekmonger will have to get their daily fix of skirt-lifting and fast-forward chase antics elsewhere.
Says BBC America’s publicity director Amy Mulcair: "I am afraid Benny Hill reflects older Britain and our job is to reflect contemporary Britain and all the cool shows coming out."
David Croft, who wrote ‘Allo 'Allo, as well as producing Benny Hill, told the Daily Telegraph: "As for Benny Hill not reflecting modern Britain that is just rubbish. It never reflected anything. It is just a funny show. This is a case of taking these things far to too seriously."
With a heavy heart, we can only offer this tribute to an international treasure. Godspeed, Benny Hill Show.

Once again, the Zombies of Taste strike! Benny was more than just a burlesque comic given a 30+year TV stint… and anyone who confines their view of Benny to the "Hill's Angels" years or his so-called objectification of women, just never watched the show very often. Hill was the last great purveyor of silent film comedy in the tradition of another dead Brit comic… Charlie Chaplin (remember him, anyone?) And Hill was very often brilliant, as much as he could drop groaners. His comedy is timeless. It's a shame when people are so caught up in themselves that they trash-bin everything that doesn't give them the warm-fuzzy-flatulence of their own political bathwater. Remember… "you will recognize a true genius, by the confederacy of dunces against him." So there. Good evening, viewers. BBC… shame on you!

UNFORTUNATELY, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS ISN'T LIMITED TO THIS SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC. THE CREEPING SPECTRE OF CENSORSHIP IN THE NAME OF "POLITICAL CORECTNESS" CAUSED THE BBC TO CANCEL "THE BENNY HILL SHOW" IN 1989 DUE TO IT'S "DEGRADATION OF WOMEN". IT ONLY TOOK 25 YEARS FOR THEM TO COME TO THIS CONCLUSION! THE SHOWS PREMISE WAS TO ENTERTAIN A PREDOMINENTLY MALE ADULT AUDIENCE, VAUDEVILLE STYLE. THE SHOW WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN NEARLY AS ENTERTAINING WITHOUT "HILLS ANGELS", THE TALENTED FEMALE SONG AND DANCE TROUPE THAT ALSO PLAYED IN MOST OF BENNYS COMEDY SKITS. MANY HILLS ANGELS ALUMNI HAVE WEB SITES , AND I DON'T RECALL ANY OF THOSE LADIES COMPLAINING ABOUT BENNIES TREATMENT OF THEM. SOME PEOPLE TODAY ARE SO REDICUOSLY THIN SKINNED THAT ANY SORT OF RISKQUE BEHAVIOR IS GROUNDS FOR " THE INQUISITION ". I'LL TAKE OLD BRITAIN (BENNY, PYTHON,DAVE ALLEN ECT.) OVER MIND-NUMBING BLANDNESS (SAME-OL SAME-OL) ANYDAY!!!!!!!!!!
