Even if he wasn't one of the funniest comedians working today, you'd have to give a lot of respect to Patton Oswalt for being such an open book and available figure. Not only does he keep an open dialogue going with fans on his MySpace and his website, but he's a constant presence on the thread dedicated to him on A Special Thing. Recently a member at AST asked a series of questions about the kinds of audiences Patton prefers, and what he got was an honest, insightful and detailed response:
1. I love when people come see me perform who own ANYTHING of mine. FEELIN', 222, ZACH VS. or PENNSYLVANIA MACARONI. Even the comic books. Having fans in the crowd makes me even more anxious to try new stuff, or go into the crowd, and give them something they weren't expecting.
2. I love when people come see me perform who don't know ANYTHING about me. One of the things that makes stand-up so fun and vital is taking a crowd from indifference to laughter, to seeing your point of view, even if they don't necessarily agree with it.
