In the latest issue of Time,
Chevy Chase's ego, a being so massive
even Chevy refers to it as a separate entity, recently laid claim to the fake news genre in its entirety before switching to damage spin mode:
"Q. What do you think of political comedians like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? – Crystal Bruneau, LOS ANGELES
A. I think we need it. My ego tends to think that, you know, I started it with my Weekend Update. But things are eclectic and come together from people without you ever knowing it."
Well played, Chevy's left brain. The rest of the Q&A reveals other great mysteries, such as Chevy's favorite Chevy Chase movie
(Fletch)
, the reason why he left SNL (he claims it was for a girl) and rebuttals of his portryal in Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live on behalf of Will Ferrell and Colin Quinn.
See? Chevy Chase is NOT a dick.

I am voting for the democratic ticket in November, but I am wondering why you are such a jerk when you talk about Gov. Sara Palin? I've seen your comments on TV and you are such a turnoff!! I loved all your movies, but you are so classless in person. Why can't you be as "polite and gracious" as your buddy Alec Baldwin said of the Governor as her appearance on SNL? You might not agree with her politics, but don't be such a horses ass about it!!!

I did an interview with Anne Beatts, an original SNL writer. She said that Chevy left for a girl, as well. The love of his life was living in LA at the time, and he wanted to be with her.
And again, to be fair… Weekend Update did pretty much start fake news. Maybe there are other examples, but remember that Chevy became one of the most famous comics in the country in one year doing fake news.
Chevy who?
