In today's Austin American-Statesman, columnist Cedric Golden reviews a recent Lisa Lampanelli show he caught at the Paramount Theater and uses it as an opportunity to discuss the difference between racism and racial humor:

"She is a comedian. Imus is not. His comments were unwarranted and
pointed. There was venom in his words, and they were directed at a
particular group of young women. He deserved to be fired but will
eventually resurface. The real haters usually survive.

While Texas cornerback Tarell Brown went to jail because marijuana
residue was found in a car that wasn't even his, conservative radio
talk show host Rush Limbaugh, a racist in my book, admitted to forging
prescriptions for painkillers and still avoided jail time.

Years after ESPN fired him for saying the white media wanted NFL QB
Donovan McNabb to excel because he's black, Limbaugh has taken to
calling Sen. Barack Obama, who is biracial, a half-minority. Radio host
Brian Sussman called him "Halfrican American."

These men aren't funny. They play to an audience that's far
different than the one at the Paramount, a diverse house with one thing
in common, the love of laughter."
