When Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo appeared on the Colbert Report's "Better Know a Protectorate" it set off rumblings of interest that reverberated across the entire island. At least, that's what we hoped would happen according to the local news coverage.
Here's a local rundown from KUAM news network writer who goes out of his way to explain the joke to his fellow natives.
By most accounts, Bordallo was keen on the jest, stating on record that: "I am sure that we will all have a good laugh at my expense. It was fun and I hope that the show helps give a small measure of publicity to our island."
Even Pacific Islands Bible College is giving folks a preemptive "lighten up." In other words, Guamanians and Chamorros have a better sense of humor than their sovereign overlords (cough Barney Frank).
