In honor of tonight's final-ever episode of The King of Queens, Patton Oswalt has written a post on his blog dedicated to the sitcom he's appeared on for nine seasons:
Nine years on a sitcom also forced me to put up or shut up, as far as
my stand-up career went. Just before 2000, my audience began to fill
up, disturbingly, with smiling families, hoping to see the funny
sidekick from the fun sitcom that all watched together. There were a
lot of walk-outs, and a near-riot in Pittsburgh. I started building a
website, putting out CDs, and created The Comedians of Comedy
tour. You can’t coast on network exposure if you want to control your
work and career. Sometimes fun is hard work. Did Ferris Bueller say
that? Or was it Gary Heidnik? Maybe both.
The entire post is a fond and gracious retrospective that also serves as a catalyst for some railing against so-called "indie cred" and affords Patton the opportunity to be probably the first person in history to type the sentence, "Whenever I bomb out trying to nail a d*ke when she discovers my c*ck,
nothing soothes the sting of regret like a short stack of buckwheat
griddlecakes!"

I watched the king of queens finale last night and cried and it was the first time I'd ever seen the show! (it was because of this blog post.) anyway, crying was probably not the point, but bravo anyway for bringing it to my attention. I had no idea patton o was on it!
