Before Hugh Laurie was known in the U.S. as maverick diagnostician genius Gregory House, M.D., he was a staple in British comedy, most famous for his collaborations with fellow actor/writer/wit Stephen Fry. Their joint projects including A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder are still quoted by dweeby Anglophiles to this day.
Which is why we're happy to report that old Hughie as received the hono(u)r of Officer of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. From the Queen herself at Buckingham Palace, he did. No, that does not mean you get to call him "Sir Hugh," but it's close (about two levels shy). Closer than you or I will ever get.
Three hurrahs for Hugh! Here's a clip of his classic brilliance from A Bit of Hugh and Laurie days, where he belts an ode to his fav athlete:
what a freak!!
wow! yeah, that's awesome!!! xDxD
that'S awesome!!! xDxD
I am a very selfish person. I've been a fan since the Blackadder days and I can't stand having to share him with the rest of America. Thus, I am boycotting House, in hopes that the hype will die down and I have Hugh Laurie all to myself (or, at least in my fantasy, he will be mine). >8D
I love Hugh Laurie on "House" and of course he's very handsome. I also watch "Jeeves and Wooster." and enjoy that show a great deal. Steven Fry is great. I don't like the addicted doctor Laurie portrays on "House." Many doctors are true drug addicts. buy I would respect his role more if he wasn't addicted. What example does it set for the other doctors portrayed on the program?
I don't have to call him Sir, but I wouldn't mind calling him sweetheart, dearest, darling, or for a late, lazy breakfast the morning after…
Whewwwwwwwwwwww, and may I assume I speak for ALL of you?
