CareysmJaded as we are in our New York office, the announcement of Drew Carey as Bob Barker's successor on "The Price is Right" failed to generate a single "meh." However, it seems to be big, big news to at least one writer at Ontario's London Free Press, who devoted an ENTIRE OP-ED COLUMN to speculation on whether or not Cleveland's favorite native son outside of Paul Newman* will be a success.

The author even goes as far as to drag Jon Stewart's pre-"Daily Show" track record into the non-argument:

"Look at somebody like Daily Show host Jon Stewart. He is a household name now. What we have all forgotten is the many missteps he made on his journey to becoming a huge star.

Stewart toiled for years doing middling projects. He worked for MTV. He filled in for the late Tom Snyder. He hosted TV flotsam like Short Attention Span Theater on the old Comedy Central. But it wasn’t until he replaced Craig Kilborn in 1999 that he found his true calling."

So to those of you who claim there's nothing to do in London, Ontario, we say: At least they've got basic cable.

*In a perfect world, it shoulda been Harvey Pekar.
