In case you're not already aware and currently camped out in line at your favorite book-store, Stephen Colbert's I am America (And So Can You!) drops at midnight tonight. And if you've somehow not been invited to one of the hundreds of release shindigs being held tonight, fret not. Powell's Books in Portland is throwing a Harry-Potter-style midnight release party tonight:

Blitz, a nice new bar across the street from us (I've been there a few times and their food is cheap and good — a refreshing change from other bars around here), has a bevy of flat screen TVs, which will be tuned to Jon Stewart at 11:00 (serving as the opening act) and then Colbert from 11:30-12am. Until the clock strikes twelve for the unveiling, I'm thinking of covering the cart of books with an American flag to avoid illegal gawking and possible embargo-breaking "browsing." There will be some drinking games leading up to this consumer event. I thought a good one would be to make everyone take a swig each time Colbert says the word "America." I'm not sure if Stephen knows of this game we'll be playing, but nonetheless I imagine people should be plowed before the credits roll.

Work-night boozing and Stephen Colbert; is there anything possibly more American?

To whet your Colbertpetite, here's a hilarious clip from the Colbert Report last week:

Very stupid, is not that a hate statement?

How about the recent CNN person that talking about laptops for areas without electricity says that are good for Peru Uruguat and Ruanda? Does she know that Uruguay probably has more electricity available to the population than the USA. To put Ruanda and Uruguay in the same basket is thick ignorance. A journalist should know about those things. Sergio

I am bit upset at a statement that was directed toward the Uruguayan people, it was ignorant and uncalled for. Unfortunately, ignorance has peek it's head in the media again. Mr. Colbert your are an intelligent person and fine comedian. Do not allow a statement such as "Uruguayans are Human Garbage" tarish you. Please keep in mind that although Uruguay or Latin America (for that matter) may not be watching. Its sons and daughters of those countries you ridicule are the same ones that watch and support you. However, me must use this negative and make a positive by bring laughter through our televisions. Mr. Colbert I wish you well and success in you future.

I am one of Stephen's American number one fans. I realize he didn't mean the comment personally toward the Uruguayan people, he could have used any country that he likely doesn't have a large following with. It is just his edgy humor, which is really what makes him so funny. He just wants us to consider both sides of the argument. No one else on television cracks me up like he does. Thanks, Stephen.

STEVEN COLBERT!! We LOVE your show….

Blimp TV has some hysterical videos that you may like: http://www.blimptv.net because we believe being American means freedom of expression, protection of privacy, and liberty for ALL. (Not just the elite few)

Rock on brother, we will be sure to buy your book!

im sorry that you are going to lose faithful viewers due to an ignorant comment. I am Uruguayan and I am proud of it. I hope you apologize to all Uruguayans, especially those who have watched your show.

hey my parents are from Uruguay, I love the show! I went there to see it live when Tony Bennett was on. How about a book signing in Barnes and Noble in Clifton NJ! We love Colbert in NJ…and can not wait for his book to be released! Barnes and Noble Clifton NJ!

Stephen is WRONG: We are from Uruguay and we enjoy his show!!!

Today Stephen said that one can make unconsequencial statements in radio (or TV) because the subject may not be listening at the moment and no record is kept. As an example, he said something unflattering about Uruguay because, according to him, nobody from that country watches his show. Well….we are from Uruguay and we watch the show as often as we can! How about an apology?

Well, too many miles in between… I will listen to the audio book insted for the third time now and put some Jazzy Bach as a background… or even better our National Anthem will do… Plus I will cook a couple of tons of lasagna and ship it to you!
