Writer George Saunders appeared on The Colbert Report a couple nights ago. Though Saunders is an incredibly astute and funny observer of the way media and The Media shape our lives, it wasn't clear from the interview whether he actually knew what The Colbert Report is about:
It's hard to tell if he's smiling behind his Civil War soldier beard; here's hoping he was in on the beautiful joke that is Colbert. But seriously, folks. Buy all of Saunders' books: Pastoralia, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, In Persuasion Nation and the rest of them. Buy, then read. Because he is great. I can't stress this enough. Now go, you Americans!
