I cannot believe that Jon and Stephen will cross the picket lines of their writers. Whatever happened to solidarity? Although I have been a loyal and dedicated fan of both shows, I will not watch any scab episodes, except maybe to find out who the advertisers are so that I can complain to them!

FANS: Viacom needs to know that strikebreaking will not be tolerated! Write letters, send emails, call the cable providers, contact TDS & CR SPONSORS and show your solidarity with the WGA! Boycott the shows' sponsors until the writers' get fair treatment. This is real democracy in action

WGA: I HATE to say this, but Colbert & Stewart are scabs! It's now clear how these men have been nothing greedy profiteers under the guise of liberal democracy and public information. The union should be ashamed of their complicity in this - revoke the rats' memberships!

VIACOM: SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!

I am a union member. A majority of us in our union watch both the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. With the announcement of both shows using scabs to produce the shows I am finished watching. I work with a coalition of other unions. We are starting the process to tell our members that Jon Stewart nor Steven Colbert are just union busting scabs. It is too bad. You both had the potential to be something much more than the people you satirize. Since it is really all about the money, we know where not to put ours now.

so.... I see someone never made it to the word metaphor in the dictionary. I bet your the shining star of your "labor" union. You're probably your organizers favorite puppet, riding around with them to do some picketing or hand billing. What are they sporting around in now days, an Escalade, a Navigator, maybe even a Hummer (rugged yet sporty and very economical). Your dues; hard at work. Unions are much like our government; they started out to benefit a greater good but have been twisted into something that's sole purpose is self preservation. It's time for the writers to write their own future. Stop waiting for someone to decide what's fair for you and then take their cut. America was built by go getters and is falling to groups of people that stand around waiting for others to hand them "their share". (that's another metaphor) And by the way, those "corporate" union members at the local burger joints(??huh??) want you for their business agent.

I don't envy Stewart and Colbert. They're talented guys but it's not like they're going on tour to comedy clubs. They're going to have to come up with fresh material every night.

Yes, perhaps the point is to show just how necessary the writers really are.

Come on AMPTP, stop screwing around.

I am a huge fan and have faithfully watched re-runs, gone and cheered at both shows in person, thereby so proving my fan-dom. But crossing the picket line! Say it isn't so! We depend on you two to be better than Letterman and Conan et al...so NO NO don't do it without a contract for the writers!

You know what would be totally cool... They go on without writers, without writing anything themselves, and they deliberately SUCK. Kind of like what Ellen did, but deliberate.

Yeah, that'll happen...

I love and miss my fake news like my own child, lost in the woods... But let's face it. They're scabs.

SCABS.

Both of these great talents gave the WGA as much support as they could. The show must go on. And both shows fill an important part of the American political landscape. I'm sure the shows won't be what they are normally with all that writing talent but it beats reruns.

Coming back to to the airwaves without the writers is simply the strategy of "divide and conquer." Come on, it has nothing to do with compassion for other workers who have been without work. It's business, and you know it. Nothing wrong with doing business, but this stinks. Go ahead and go back without the writers. I won't be watching.

I haven't seen a comment that mentions how important these guys coming back is to the rest of the staff and crew who have been unemployed due to the strike. So I guess I'll mention it.

Stewart and Colbert coming back to the air really means a lot to the rest of the employees on the show who have been without work or paychecks since the strike started. Perhaps these two tv icons are hoping to help those workers and their families while also sticking it to the AMPTP every day.

Along with Todd, I'm also curious to see what kind of content they come up with every single day without writers. Honestly, these days they can pretty much just open the NYT and read headlines.

I imagine it is as frustrating for Stewart and Colbert having to go back to work without their writers, knowing the results will be sub-par, as it is for us watching it happen. They've been put into a very difficult position, being compelled to cross the picket lines because they happen to be the show's hosts. Basically, they're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

As they are both WGA members themselves, I believe they want to do nothing but support the union, but I imagine they are also torn because of the many other non-writing crew members are struggling through this time as well.

I may watch the first episodes to see how they try to pull this off, and how much latitude Stewart and Colbert are allowed in terms of editorializing.

Btw, to all of you who are so quick to accuse these guys of being such villians.....remember that it's always easy to throw judgements around like that.....especially when you're not (and likely will never be) in their shoes. I'm a huge supporter of the writers, but I'm also not ready to crucify these guys just because they are being compelled to go back into production.
