GloverSeldom is the buzz so damn loud. Word in the community is that Donald Glover from the NY sketch comedy group Derrick will be joining SNL to fill the gap that Obama's political presence has created. The initial reports were scooped from the LA Times forum, put forth by the moderator. I'm not going to lie. I witnessed Glover's Obama impression at a late night Derrick show two months back and it's fantastic.

But the rumors don't end there. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, he will debut THIS weekend. Yes. That's right.

Now, I'm not an egotistical man. No, not at all. But I did say literally 3  weeks ago: "Mark my word, Donald Glover WILL join SNL within the next 3 years." If the rumors are true, the world owes me a coke.

NO MORE BLACKFACE …PLEEEAAASE???

I understand the actor who played Obama is Venezuelan/Japanese decent. But blackface is about more than the skin tone beneath the makeup. Race is an artificial construct. But Race is much more than the hue of someones skin. If it were simply about skin tone George Hamilton would've been in more Spike Lee films than Samuel L. Jackson.

The larger question that begs an answer is; why does a seminal show that has been ingrained in our culture for more than a generation continue to find it 'difficult' to consistently present and choose talent from what is a proven rich pool of Black comedic actors. Furthermore, wrap your mind around this. If they don't pick up the option on Kenan Thompson, we could have a Black President and no Black cast members on SNL.

This, ladies and gentleman, is why we miss Lindsay.

Former Comedy Central intern Donald Glover, that is!

If he could do an impression of George Bush doing an impression of Obama, that would be golden.

Donald is a writer for 30 Rock, too. I hope he keeps that gig instead of languishing in Lorne Michaels' dungeon for black comedians who aren't Eddie Murphy.
