Last Thursday, I blew the lid off one of the greatest incidents of journalistic malfeasance since Edward R. Murrow reported that Cleveland had been moved to Laos. In case you missed it, in a segment on NPR's American Public Media's Marketplace, The Daily Show's resident expert John Hodgman was called "overweight and balding" in spite of all evidence to the contrary.
Since my original post, the story has caught on like wildfire, leading to evacuations in some neighborhoods (Sorry!). Hodgman himself chimed in with enviable modesty and restraint, while The Sound of Young America's Jesse Thorn justifiably could not hold back the outrage we all feel:
It may be that the esteemed Mr. Hodgman is slightly overweight, though
he's been looking quite trim and health lately in my view. HOWEVER: he
has a full, healthy head of hair. He certainly has more hair than I, a
NOT-BALD MAN TEN YEARS HIS JUNIOR.
But there may yet be a glimmer of justice in this increasingly Thunderdome-esque world. According to Thorn, his complaints will be aired on Tuesday's edition of Marketplace. As soon as audio or a transcript from that program is available, you'll find it here.
Meanwhile, you can marvel at Hodgman's lush head of hair in a clip from The Daily Show after the jump.
