It seems Time isn't the only publication that recognizes Stephen Colbert's influence. The UK's Telegraph has been counting down the 50 Most Influential US Political Pundits this week, with numbers 20 through 11 profiled today. And who should clock in at #11, a spot ahead of Bill O'Reilly, but the host of The Colbert Report!
11. STEPHEN COLBERT
It is often said that Fox's Bill O'Reilly is the model for Stephen T Colbert, the self-indulgent, bombastic and inaccurate character who chairs the Colbert Report on Comedy Central.
Colbert’s id has been described as a "well-intentioned, poorly informed high-status idiot". Through [the] show's phony news and election coverage, his mainly young audience nonetheless feels it is getting the spiritual truth about the campaign.
With no mention of Jon Stewart on the list yet, I can only assume he'll be somewhere in the top-10, which will be unveiled tomorrow.
yeeah stephen!!
you know the first show i saw i actually couldn't stand him, but loved his coining of "truthiness"…. Then I saw the genius behind the Colbert character and couldn't stand the fact we live in a world spun by truthiness
Colbert should be #1 on the list! He has the most accurate conservative viewpoint. One word from his mouth is more of a patriotic event then if Rush Linbaugh, Bill O'Riley, Glen Beck, and Anne Coulter were dropped into a blender set to frappe & served as a milkshake to our beloved George W. Steven is our avalanche of American Righteousness and a great example for kids and dogs.
