Entertainment Weekly has crunched the numbers, done the lab work and spliced the genes to come up with the definitive list of the 25 funniest people in America. Topping the bottom-24 of the top-25? None other than Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Report team:

The once (and, we're sure, future) presidential nominee, author, and dedicated windbag also happens to be one of the smartest satirists working today. Heck, if all the dude had on his resume was the legendary 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner, he'd go down in comedy history. But week-in and week-out, Colbert takes aim at the political-industrial complex — and I don't care if there's no such term — and spins the facts into truth. Or truthiness. Whichever's easier.

Also notable on the list are Jon Stewart and The Daily Show team at #4, Matt Stone and Trey Parker at #7, Demetri Martin at #21, Dave Chappelle at #22, and Sarah Silverman at #23. The complete list is after the jump.

25. Augusten Burroughs
24. Catherine O'Hara
23. Sarah Silverman
22. Dave Chappelle
21. Demetri Martin
20. Diablo Cody
19. Craig Ferguson
18. Jack Black
17. David Letterman
16. Amy Sedaris and David Sedaris
15. Will Ferrell
14. Ricky Gervais
13. Ellen DeGeneres
12. David Cross
11. Conan O'Brien
10. Kisten Wiig
9. Larry David
8. Amy Poehler and Will Arnett
7. Matt Stone and Trey Parker
6. Chris Rock
5. Steve Carell
4. Jon Stewart and The Daily Show Team
3. Tina Fey
2. Stephen Colbert and The Colbert Report Team
1. The Judd Apatow Posse

For listing Dave Cappelle as low as 22, should make your list at No.1.

Since when are Ricky Gervais, Ellen DeGeneres, David Cross, Conan O'Brien, Kisten Wiig, Larry David, Amy Poehler and Will Arnett, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show Team, Tina Fey, and The Judd Apatow Posse funnier than Jack Black?

For real.

Just to name a few awesome Jack Black deeds:

-Shallow Hal

-Orange County

-Be Kind Rewind

-King Kong

-Tenacious D

-I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

-The School of Rock

I mean seriously, Ellen Degeneres????

I just really have to differ from the idea that Carlos Mencia is 1 tenth as humorous as Steve Carell. Steve Carell's got amazing delivery, Carlos – completely lacks it.

the fourth and seventh places should switch around, and stephen colbert should be first.

Lewis black should be on here too, and so should mencia.

Well, wouldn't Entertainment Weekly make money off putting people on this list?

Diablo Cody? are you fucking kidding me. And who the fuck do you think you are putting ellen degeneres above will farell? this is retarded

Colbert should have won first place. Judd Apatow isn't funny.

Yay for Tine Fey!

Stephen Colbert just spoke at the Princeton University Grad Ceremony – He was the funniest and I believe he should be at the TOP SPOT. Here is article published by the local paper in Princeton that proves it:

How come Carlos Mencia is not there? I'm sorry but there no way Steve Carrell is funnier than Mencia.

if jon stewart is funnier than matt and trey, how could it happen that his raitings are still lower than the south park ones? Why people don't want to watch him more? The list must be a fake.

While the high placement of some of these people is troubling (Diablo Cody? Kristen Wiig? Chris Rock?) The fact that Dane Cook isn't anywhere near this list is a thing of beauty.

Demetri Martin was on this a few years ago and I think they used to same write-up, it says he won a prestigious award at last year's edinburgh fringe festival, wasnt that like 5 years ago?
