Variety reports that NBC has picked up a new single-camera office comedy from writer Jon Pollack. The uncast pilot focuses on a woman in the high stakes world of hedge funds.

In addition to work on 30 Rock, Pollack has written for Just Shoot Me, Spin City and others.

It's easy to imagine that the laugh-a-minute world of hedge funds is ripe for an office comedy, but you might want to become familiar with some of the terms of the trade:

CDO
This is the Collateralized Debt Obligation – basically a pool of mortgages that have been packaged together and sold. The CDO is responsible for much of today's mortgage crisis, so you might think of it as the Condo I Don't Own.

Benchmark for Correlation Values
The benchmark that the fund has chosen to run correlation values such as alpha, beta, R and R squared. Most traders use this term as a euphemism for taking a dump.

IRA
An IRA is an individual retirement account. It is also the Irish Republican Army. When you give money to an IRA, the Irish Republican Army invests it for you until you're ready to retire. Their major investments are Guinness, arms sales, and leprechaun gold.

Alpha
Alpha is the measure of a fund's average performance independent of the
market. To determine your alpha, multiply the monthly mortgage for your home in the Hamptons times
the number of people whose retirement accounts you have reduced to a cold bucket of urine (this year only).

Treynor Ratio
The Treynor Ratio, developed by Jack Treynor, is similar to the Sharpe Ratio, except that it uses Beta as the volatility measurement. This is similar to the Trentreznor Ratio, which explains how you can let your fans download your new album for free and still not make any money.
