In a chat with Salon, Theodore Hamm, author of The
New Blue Media
: How Michael Moore, MoveOn.org, Jon Stewart and Company
Are Transforming Progressive Politics
, suggests that the humor of Stewart, Colbert, and The Onion have had an impact in galvanizing young progressives.

That might be true, but putting The Daily Show on TiVo doesn't quite have the activist resonance as drab hobbies like voting or fundraising. We'll have to wait and see whether liberals are motivated when satirical news shows and websites have a Democratic president in their sights.

Here's some things that might actually have saved the left (if winning one crappy midterm election can really be counted on as saving the left):

  • Ben And Jerry's Peace Pops.
  • The conservative robot that assassinated and replaced Dennis Miller.
  • Several years of war, government corruption and a poor economic outlook.
  • The phenomenon that bizarre, racist comments made on the campaign trail instantaneously find their way on Youtube, as if by magic.
  • Votergasm (prolly NSFW).
