Inspired by the windfall of Eric Idle's stage interpretation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, John Cleese has decided to raid his career larder and bring you A Fish Called Wanda in musical form. Apparently John learned about the profitability of stage shows AFTER waiving royalty rights to Spamalot. Cleese is working on the project with his daughter. "She’s much funnier and quicker than I am, so I limp along after her."
While not exactly on a disaster course a la Carrie: The Musical (pluses: smart 80's movie nostalgia, possible Kevin Kline availability), John should note that it's never a lock to rely on past big-screen laurels (see: The New Mel Brooks Musical: Young Frankenstein and the soon-to-close Cry-Baby: The Musical).
Look for the first version of A Fish Called Wanda: The Musical at a mid-size test market city near you.
Anticipation-a musical version of A Fish Called Wanda. I liked it as a movie, I like musicals, and LOVE John Cleese and Kevin Kline. So if the songs bite, the story won't, just like opera!
