Entertainment Weekly released its list of the top 100 TV shows from the last twenty five years this week. Surprisingly, Survivor (6) ranked higher than The Cosby Show
(7). This is ridiculous. When I first read it, I thought it was an
elaborate senior… editor prank. Then when I realized it wasn't, my
face became red like the sun on the Japanese flag. And keep in mind,
I’m black. Survivor isn't a classic TV show. And it isn't and will never be better than The Cosby Show.
The Cosby Show instantly brought back the sitcom, broke barriers
for African-Americans, and was consistently funny for eight seasons.
What did Survivor do? Destroyed the sitcom, didn't break any barriers,
and was consistently dull for sixteen seasons. I didn’t even see any
coconut bras. Remember that episode of The Cosby Show when Heathcliff found a bra in Theo’s laundry? Bill Cosby holding up a bra equals classic television.
Survivor is supposed to be a reality show, but it's not. How is
sending sixteen strangers to a remote island and have them go through
absurd challenges to win a large amount of money real? How often does
this happen in real life? Oh, about every six months when a new season
begins. The Cosby Show dealt with relatable issues like
relationships, education and parenting. Remember when Rudy’s fish died,
and they had a funeral, then it turned out that Rudy didn't really
care? That’s classic because a lot of people can relate to a pet dying,
plus there's a great comedic twist. The only people that can relate to
Survivor are past contestants. The list needs be readjusted a bit. The Cosby Show should be in the top four, Survivor, not even on the friends list.
Take a look at the list yourself.

I agree mostly, but I think the first season of "Survivor" was a pretty unique phenomenon in TV history.
But as for overall show – no way it should be in the Top Ten, let alone be ranked above "Cosby." Hell, I'd take Cosby's later CBS sitcom over "Survivor." Doug E. Doug over Richard Hatch, any day.
Ah come on Reggie, that guy walked around naked. That was classic sitcom humor.
Look, survivor was able to capitalize on a massive market (lazy, complete failures) by putting together a show that reflected the direct opposite of their lazy failure existence. By ignoring the goals of the sitcom of "conflict resolution" to the goals of the reality TV show "to exist in the least realistic way possible", reality show creators were able to lower the expectation bar to produce craziness from crazy ass people for waffle fry prices (free… a random reference). Cosby may be ranked lower simply because it competes for more intelligent, old school viewers- an ever shrinking group- with other classic shows such as Home Improvement. I mean, Dharma and Greg enjoyed many years of successful reruns on fox, so how intelligent could daytime tv viewers be? I feel like most of them are just satisfied that there are dancing pictures on their screen.
Check it Here… The cosby show should be 3rd on that list. That show changed American culture. It changed the world wide perception that black people can only be ball players and dealers. Also, Bill Cosby is a funny Motha fucka, he proved to all aspiring comedian and his spectators that he does not need to use foul language to have good material. That guy is a genius, plus the show really captured the full spectrum of the human experience. The show always gave valid lessons… Survivor is a good show but it does not measure to the cosby show. Sorry…
Hey Reggie You know I got you on this issue, The cosby show to me was one of the many footprints in history. I didn't know that they placed survivor about the cosby show, And I appreciate you speaking out about it.
lol. reggie's jew friend. does more seasons equal a better show. if that was the case then Monday Night Football should be the best show ever. the problem is people tend to forget about older shows. survivor is more current so the buzz is stronger, a lot of people forget how big The Cosby Show was.
I agree that The Cosby Show is better, if only for the fact that you can rewatch the seasons without getting bored.
Survivor you can watch at most once, twice if you're on the retarded side. It's a pretty shitty show once you know who's won.
How the hell did Survivor kill the Sitcom? It brought an entirely new genre to TV, "reality television" for adults. Before that, the genre was gameshows and "The Real World". Survivor's gonna have more seasons than the Cosby Show. A good percentage of reality shows now involve components of voting people off (something that wasn't present as the context of TRW or Road Rules).
Also, most of the "Top Ten" slots in any list (especially a list of 100 items) are going to be pretty interchangable. You're overreacting a bit.
Finally, you're a "Rocktern"? That's hilarious, are you working for Chris Rock or something? Are you rotating boulders?
Like everyone else here, I completely agree. The Cosby Show was groundbreaking, while Survivor in a few years will be barely memorable.
Yes Reggie i completely agree with u, they should put the Cosby show at the top, cause it was the best show ever for me, anyway it still the best show ever.
That whole issue was absurd.
Moulin Rouge was like 16 spots higher on their movie list than Fargo. FUCKING FARGO.
Reggie, I agree. The Cosby Show was CLASSIC and TIMELESS. It's still funny and relatable today. Survivor has killed the sitcom, and that's unfortunate. It's TV for a braindead generation.
