We've seen September 11th, 2001 as the inspiration for stories about torture, war, heroism and sacrifice. Now, according to the Calgary Herald, we'll see it as a romantic comedy. It's easy to imagine the set up – two neighbors who despise each other are forced to share an apartment uptown after their TriBeCa lofts have been deemed contaminated by the EPA. Opposites attracting ensues.
British playwright Caroline Stafford has written The Day the Planes Came, a comic love story about a couple who meet when their plane is diverted from New Jersey to Canada. I'd like to see a cameo of a bumbling sheriff named Rudy G, who gets in the couple's way, unsuccessfully runs for president, then settles down to run a Nathan's hot dog stand in Brooklyn.
The play will be broadcast by radio and will most likely be heard by a few cats and dogs whose owners leave on the BBC while they're at work so they don't get lonely.
