When I first heard Rush was going to be on The Colbert Report, I wondered how much Oxycontin they had to bribe him with. But as it turns out, I was thinking of an altogether different Rush:

Renowned rock icons Rush will make an extremely rare
television appearance as they perform their massive hit "Tom Sawyer"
on COMEDY CENTRAL's Peabody® Award-winning and Emmy®-nominated
"The Colbert Report"
on Wednesday, July 16 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.  It's the band's first U.S.
television performance since "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" in 1975.

Not into prog-rock? Fear not, Stephen will soon be playing host to performances from NAS (7/23), Toby Keith (7/28) and Crosby, Stills and Nash (7/30).

I am 46 and a working drummer thanx to Neil and have followed and studied Rush religiously since 1976. When I heard this news it was truly music to my ears and I don't care what song they play although Xanadu would be my pick or how about Time Stand Still WITH Kate Bush on back up vocals mmmmmm.

I hear you TC. I'd like to hear something that's not a TS, Subdivisions, or Limelight. You have me beat by 2 years… I've seen them every time in Atlanta since '81. Seeing them here this Tuesday! Rock on Rush.

Actually, I like TS as well. It was released the year I graduated from high school and brings back a lot of good memories.

I was just thinking, since they released a new CD a few months ago, we'd be treated to 'Far Cry'. It seems like it's message would be more appropriate for Colbert's show. I guess it bugs me that, after 30+ years of music, we still here the same 2 or 3 songs on the radio. When they finally get around to doing a tv show, why does it have to be one of those same songs.

Don't get me wrong. I've been a fan since 1978. I will most definitely be watching. :)

I think it's great that the song is my favorite song in the entire universe, "Tom Sawyer". Oh yeah, baby. What, were you thinking "2112"? LOL… OK, wait… that might be better …

Too bad it's 'Tom Sawyer'. I'd have preferred something from this Century.

Can't wait!!!! The greatest, classiest band in the world!! How'd you pull this one off? They are the least attention seeking band ever! Lucky us, and lucky you. Die hard fan since 1981.

It's like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (R): two of my very favorite things in the whole world magnificently joined together to create a greater whole. I love peanut butter. I love chocolate. But together? Oohhh! I love Rush. I love Stephen Colbert. Together? Oohhh! I just can't decide for this analogy who is the peanut butter, and who is the chocolate. Who am I kidding! Colbert is definitely the chocolate!
