What is being criticized are the stupid responses like "Asians ARE slanty eyed so its ok!" or "I have many yellow friends so its ok!".

Of course the "chink" and "slitty eyed" jokes are boorish and hackneyed; that's the point! Here in the UK we have the Duke of Edinburgh, who makes such comments for real! If some of you people find Rob Riggle's hilarious lampoon of (white) ignorance and insensitivity offensive, then see if you can find Chris Morris's brilliant "Brass Eye" special on paedophilia. It will keep the humourless and easily offended, (who seem to always miss the point), posting complaints for years to come! As for the others in the US, where I doubt "Brass Eye" has been shown even on cable, (although I hope I'm wrong), if you can find it, it will have you in stitches.

We get to watch "The Daily Show" here on freeview digital TV, but I've now discovered I can watch "The Colbert Report" on line, and seeing as how I know that irony is a noun, and not an adjective used to describe metallic quality, I understand that he's sending up the Fox News style of "fair and balanced" presenting. Fox News is fair and balanced like Hitler's National Socialist Party was socialist, but for those ignorant people who think liberal views are somehow a bad thing, no doubt socialism and fascism seem synonymous to you. (Don't know what synonymous means? Look the word up in a dictionary. Dictionary? It's a big book with lots of words in alphabetic order with their meanings. Alphabet? Remember that song you heard on Sesame Street when you were little? No? Oh well, just keep banging those rocks together then Bubba…..

When Rob pulled up the corners of his eyes he was making fun of a recent ad run by the Spanish soccer team in which they were heavily criticized for pulling their eyes up in a slant. He was making fun of people who would be so clueless that they thought running an ad like that was ok.

Knowing the context, I'm not really offended.

But then I read BS comments above where people make the same old simplistic retorts like "I'm white and I wouldn't get offended by roundeyes!" (sorry, not that simple) or "I have half-Chinese friends!" (Colbert even satirizes this kind of defense) and the all-too-overused "You're too sensitive!".

Looking at these comments, the real people who are overly sensitive are the people who are getting fired up and defensive over other people being offended. Great show of hypocrisy. I approve.

Give me a break! Riggle was making fun of the people, e.g., the Spanish men's and women's bball teams, who do the eye-slur, not using it just to get a laugh, leave that to some wingnut. He was using a comedic technique to show how a ridiculously inept person can do something that Jon and everyone knew was insensitive and potentially hateful.

The biggest risk in comedy is that someone won't get it.

I personally don't care for Riggles character. Even though I don't care for him, I have to laugh sometimes. His character is an ignorant egotistical meathead. His target for ridicule is not the individuals living in China or Chinese Americans. It's the person who actually thinks like his character. Unfortunatly seeing as how this target is ignorant it doesn't matter. To say that Riggle is not fit for The Daily Show cause the character he plays is meant to be annoying is a little much. The fact you hate his character attests to his ability to follow his character.
