Stand-Up Comedy: England's Deadliest Job?

With the recent tragic death of Bernie Mac, some are starting to notice that comedians' lifestyles can be deadly. The alcohol, late nights, bad food, bad warm up acts, all contribute to unhealthy comedians. According to the Beeb, "Stand-up comics with their late night shows (are) deemed the profession most at risk of health problems". Guess they must not have any coal miners in Scotland. To combat this growing health menace the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will provide nurses to give checkups to comedians between acts.
Nurses at Fringe will offer health tips to stand-up acts, such as how you should walk to the news agent to buy your smokes, drink no more than 10 pints a night, and make sure the green room is stocked with diet soda, as the carbonation aids the digestion of ribs, chicken nuggets and Twinkies. And never combine Coke and Pop Rocks.
