79848787Yesterday Andrew Daly's new CD Nine Sweaters dropped harder than my dog's testicles. In celebration of the album, Buzzine has a a great new interview wherein Daly talks about framing tragedy for comedic purposes.

Tragedy can be funny if it’s framed right, and maybe that’s something
that happens on this album a lot. A situation is set up, a character is
established, and tragedy is injected into the character’s life in a way
that, I think, results in comedy. The violence and the horrors
described would be pure tragedy outside of the characters and
situations that have been established.

What separates Daly from comics who simply use shock value is how he centers his darker humor around a realistic situation. For example, when I talk about my personal tragedies with my psychiatrist she usually laughs because she knows the full context of my life. Personally, I don't think I should be paying just to make her laugh, but it's still less humiliating than open mics. She's just being supportive of the joke I am telling (i.e. my life).

Check out of the rest of this great interview here. Also, you definitely should order a copy of Nine Sweaters here.
