In a Variety Interview, Kevin Smith discusses movie making, Judd Apatow, and the golden age of the raunch/sentimentality combination. He goes into a high level of detail about rescuing Zack and Miri from the dreaded NC-17 - cutting, recutting, the MPAA appeals process and how he convinced the majority present that it really deserved an R rating. Plus he was amazingly gracious about it, betraying none of the frustration you might expect from a system that gives violence a free pass (Clone Wars, I'm looking at you) and yet blanches at fake poop.
