According to Broadcasting and Cable, Conaco, Conan OBrien's production company, has a new pilot written by veteran sitcom writers Judd Pillot and John Peaslee and it sounds kind of awesome.
Operating Instructions is about a top female trauma surgeon
who returns from two tours in Iraq to become head of surgery at a
military hospital. She finds that she is leaving one combat zone and
entering another as she tries to navigate the stateside healthcare
system and the bureaucracy that comes with it, all while juggling an
unexpected romantic encounter.
That sounds like M*A*S*H but without the sexism or annoying Groucho Marx impressions. And one of the writers is named Pillot! That guy's gotta know how to write a good pilot?! It's just like pilot but with an extra "L!"
After the jump, I reveal the true reason I am excited for Operating Instructions.
Besides the fact the name reminds of the Errol Morris documentary, the true reason I'm excited for this show is because it's the second part of a deal that included the short-lived NBC sitcom Andy Barker P.I. which was canceled after 6 episodes. My hope is that even if they aren't recurring characters, both Andy Richter and Buster from Arrested Development at least guest star.
My favorite part of that entire scene is the Dr. Giggles poster behind Buster (I know his name is Tony Hale, but I'm going to keep calling him Buster).
