82741358Yesterday's Guardian has a piece about Religulous, the upcoming documentary about religion from Bill Maher and Borat-director Larry Charles. Their modest goal is not to satirize, but according to Charles, who is obviously annoyed that people confuse him for John the Baptist, to "to destroy more than debunk, just destroy the whole system." Religion has not made any comment, but with a 5000+ year tradition, doesn't seem all that worried.

Bill Donahue, of the religious superhero ensemble the Catholic League, believes the film is specifically meant to attack Catholicism:

"He has said some of the most vile things. (Maher) can say all he wants about
being ecumenical, but it's only one religion he really has it out for,
and it's the Catholic religion."

He sounds really excited to raise money — I mean protest the film. The only thing more protest-tastic would be if Maher teamed with Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell and filmed themselves talking about how much they love giving nuns abortions while not keeping the sabbath holy.
