If you know me, then you know about my hard-line belief that Paul F. Tompkins should be the host of America, broadcasting live from my living room. So it gives me great joy to learn that he'll soon be taking the next logical step toward making that happen. According to A Special Thing, he's been tapped to host of a revamped Best Week Ever:
Paul has this to say: "I am going to make the most of this
opportunity. We're going to try our best to make a good show. It's a
good team. And I think if the show wasn't exactly your thing before,
you might want to give it a second chance in this incarnation. It will
be a more controlled, written show– since less time will be taken up
combing through a couple dozen interview tapes looking for the best
jokes from a dozen people, that's more time to write the best jokes and
have me and a couple other people deliver them. I hope people tune in
and enjoy the show!"
Does this sound to you kind of like a pop-culture Daily Show? It does to me. In a good way. No, in a great way.
After the jump, enjoy a clip from Paul F. Tompkins' last Comedy Central Presents.
Paul F Thompkins was one of the few commentators I looked forward to seeing (unlike some of them, who I was pretty sure we're related to one of the producers or something equally lame) but now I can't stand the show. It's way too written and boring. I miss some of the amazing other commentators, and now it's just a really bad version of The Soup. PFT's style doesn't lend itself well to this at all. Oh well, just another show I don't have to waste my time on. Too bad, I'll miss it!
i liked the show in its earlier format. in a recent interview the ceo of vh1 said that they changed the way they did the show because it was too similar to other shows. what were these shows? now best week ever used to be the program were i could go and get all my entertainment news info and get it from a lot of different points of view. now its just a worse version of the soup. i never liked this guys comedy in the first place. take it back to the way it used to be. all who agree blog, blog your hearts out.
I am so freaking happy NYC is getting him for a bit. We're gonna treat PFT and his pinstripes and seersuckers oh so good.
PFT can do no wrong. I'm sad he's moving to NYC for a year, but I'm willing to lose him from LA if it means he gets his own show. Enjoy him NYC, and treat him right.
