Classic Kids' Comedy Corner: Wacky Packages
Back in the misty days before Garbage Pail Kids dominated recess swap meets the Topps Corporation issued Wacky Packages, a series of stickers that satirized beloved American consumer brands.
To the children of a certain generation these were comedy manna from the heavens. I mean, come on, Hawaiian Punks? Does it get any better?
I remember my cousin sporting a ratty t-shirt with the Weakies reprint seen to the side, thinking he was the most subversive grade school comedian in the greater Seattle Area.
For a novelty item, the stickers sold so well that they outpaced Topps' baseball cards in its first years. Now you can own reproductions of these classics in album form with a celebration of Wacky Packages' 35th Anniversary.
Forget Mad Men, never has there been a more damning indictment of American consumer culture.
