New York Comedy Festival Marks End of Political Humor Season
The New York Comedy Festival begins on Wednesday, which if everything goes correctly should be the first day of the reign of The One. In a Times interview about the NYCF, B.J. Novak (writer, producer and actor on The Office) talks about his plans to shift gears away from political humor, though he couldn't help but expound on his theory that Ernie always wins and Bert always loses.
"As in the polls, the choice of running mate may clinch it. 'Who does Ernie hang out with? Bert, by choice,' Mr. Novak said. (Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. — 'obviously a Bert.') 'McCain chose what seemed to him the perfect Bert, but I would compare Palin more to Elmo.”
It's difficult for me to accept that we won't have comedians talking about politics. It seems that President Bush still has 80 days, 10 hours and 20 minutes to disasterify the world, so there will have to be something to make fun of on late night. And if not, look at it this way: Only 734 days until the 2010 Midterm Elections!
Check back here for our updates on the festival all next week. I'd link to those updates now, but I'm not some sort of creepy unkempt traveling time lord here for your amusement
