An effervescent Jo Koy took to the stage at Hunter College last night to an excited, diverse crowd as part of the New York Comedy Festival.
Musical guest apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas opened the show with a beguiling rap and breakdance routine. There's nothing like some popping and locking to prepare me for some comedy.
Comedian Bill Dawes came on next and also felt the need to express himself through dance. His stand-up routine was pretty funny too.
Bill introduced Jo who genuinely seems like the kind of comic who loves what he does. Jo explained how all the background on the stage is supposed to be an image of his son (but only if you looked at it from dead center). Whatever you say, Andy Warhol…
If you're ever wondered why little kids are so weird, wished you could imitate a Filipino accent, or played video games with your mom, Jo Koy is your man.

Drove from Schenectady, NY to see Jo Koy in NYC, it was definitely worth the trip. I do standup also, I went to enjoy the show and, but I also went to study. Jo was so cool, he was just chillin and having a good time.
