Apatow

Judd Apatow is a funny man. Judd Apatow is a powerful man. But as much as Judd Apatow is funny and powerful, I wouldn't call his powers BIBLICAL.

Leave it to Vanity Fair's Rich Cohen to take the picture above –dubbed "The Laugh Supper" — and blow the safety right off the hyperbole cannon:

"Sometimes he’s in a room full of people, sometimes he’s all alone, but the jokes always come—they fall like manna from heave . . . He is made for humor the way certain people are made for speed. It’s a

humor perfectly tuned to the moment, which is fearful and diminished

and small, so in terrible need of belly laughs. In this photograph, you

see the director in his natural habitat, being funny, surrounded by

funny people, actors mostly, reading the script of his next movie, Funny People."

To which Apatow responds a mere SENTENCE LATER: "It’s fun and productive, but truly painful when it’s not working."

In other words, it's a freakin' table reading. Readings happen all the time in configurations much like a vague semicircle. Let the man be Judd.
