Ben Stiller Plans Another Zoolander Movie, New Variations on Blue Steel
Derek Zoolander's first big-screen outing didn't fare well in theaters, but became a massive hit thanks to the home video market (see Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery). Unlike similar movies based on sketch comedy premises, Zoolander had enough laughs to justify its full-length status. But does it deserve a sequel? Ben Stiller seems to think so:
"I’ve been trying to get Zoolander 2 together and we’ve had a few scripts. . . I feel that is the sequel I really would like to do some day because I like the original and I would make sure it was something new and worthy of it first."
It's not that he's doing it purely for the money; the scratch he's made on the Madagascars, Night at the Museums and Meet the Parents movies alone puts him in that rare producer/actor firmament reserved for Will Smith and the like. Let's hope there's still a fashion industry left to mock by the time this latest sequel goes into production.
