As someone who lives in Detroit but has a job based in New York, I feel I bring a unique perspective to the auto industry bailout debate. And to be honest, I'm on the fence. On the one hand, if the Big Three were allowed to fail, most of my family and friends would suddenly be out of work and Michigan would become a post-apocalyptic wasteland–excuse me, more of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. On the other hand, I'd still have a job and would surely be able to get some great deals on gun-turret-equipped dune buggies and sleeveless leather jackets. But, unlike me, Jon Stewart has his mind made up.
american cars are shit

Jon Stewart makes sense in a funny way

American cars are worth buying too.

Guess the readers would have to be old enough to remember "AMC" to understand his comments. John Stewart and Jay Leno in 2012! That is, if we are still a nation by then.
You may think it is humble to layoff workers, cut back waste spending like jets and have CEO's on $1 wages but it is too late. Why wait until it comes to a head before doing these changes? There fear isn't surving, it's covering the cost of the pensions. Well too bad, someone has to hurt. Better off cutting the Government credit line then propping up another losing market. Some company will buy them and a large chuck of the employees will remain, not much hurt for a better end result.
They can only blame themseles.
Jon Stewart has a point. Look at digg and look at all the financial CEO bonuses. I'd rather give money to people who are doing there best right now by redoing their business by getting rid of waste cost like private jets, getting rid of employees on standby and even saying that they will work for 1 dollar a year to make things right when banks in bailout like AIG will go on a company vacation and spend half a mil. To me I go with the way lesser evil.
"Jon Stewart doesn't understand very much, he promotes a misunderstanding of the issues night after night by trying to sound funny and smart. Think for yourself people, and don't go by what one guy says all the time. "
Step one: Learn what humor is.
Step two: Try not to take humor serious.
Step three: Start small, satire is obviously over your head.
His argument is fairly sound (and of course, one should take his comedic rants with a grain of salt), but in the grand scheme of things, the American car industry has been in a down turn for a lot longer than the financial industry. At least if the car industry fails, a new one can arise with a (hopefully) better business model. Furthermore, the effects on the overall economy of an entire financial system failing is far more significant than a car industry failing.
Let them fail. They dont deserve any money at all
Satirical? I doubt they even know what that means.
Bah.. Humans..
What a bunch of loser's all of you are. This show is on COMEDY CENTRAL people!!!! It is SUPPOSE to be saterical. He is a COMEDIAN not an economist!!!!
