Aubrey Plaza is the next Aziz Ansari. A few months back, Aziz was a funny guy doing funny things, but all of a sudden, with the Funny People casting, the upcoming Amy Poehler sitcom and the healthy internet presence, Aziz is ready to blow up. And Aziz isn't the only person with a Funny People role, an upcoming Amy Poehler sitcom and a healthy internet presence. UCB alum Aubrey Plaza is hot on his trail.
vying for Scott Pilgrim's attention (Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona
would be the other part of the love triangle). Plaza is currently
shooting FUNNY PEOPLE for Judd Apatow where she plays a Jeneane Garafolo-esque comedian who's also the girlfriend
of Seth Rogen's character. She also recently signed on to star in the upcoming untitled Amy Poehler sitcom for NBCIf you haven't read the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, you should definitely pick them up. In the book, Aubrey's character, Julie, plays a small role, but from what I've been reading, she's significantly beefed up in the film.
Since this thread is about Aubrey Plaza and not about the Scott Pilgrim movie, which will be awesome, let me just quickly mention that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kieran Culkin are also on board for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
Oh, and if you were still wondering what the new Greg Daniels' helmed Amy Poehler starring NBC sitcom is about, there's a bit more information out there:
The new series, still untitled, will be filmed in the same
mockmentary style as "The Office" but will be set in the world of local
government. Cameras follow Leslie Knope (Poehler), described as a
"mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee,
Indiana."
…In the show, Leslie attempts to improve her town and advance her
career by helping a local nurse (Rashida Jones, "The Office") turn a
construction pit into a park. They're opposed by defensive bureaucrats,
NIMBY neighbors and developers. She's helped and hindered by Tom
Haverford (Aziz Ansari, "Human Giant," "Scrubs"), another government
official.
Whew! That was a lot of news to get out in a single post.
