GO JON! Why didn't CNBC & many others see this coming? I believe they did. Mom said "There's no free lunch" & "You don't get somethin' for nothin'."

While working at a Major bank in the last 4/5 years, I saw the greed as loan applications were "standardized" (so they could be bundled & sold), states were shoving through Home Improvement Loan legislation, second-chance credit cards were sold to questionable customers, all retail bankers were rewarded (monetarily) selling any "bank" product", banking fee rules were changing daily, and (the big one for me) the credit card division was making more off customer fees than interest. Then, there is the Variable Rate Mortgages. WOW. All the bigs were doing it. Banks didn't need to make money like this in the past. Little was done to incourage savings as before. Come to find out, Americans now owe more than they have in savings for the first time. I'm not in any way a financial advisor or expert, but I saw all of this going on and began having personal ethical issues in this environment. It didn't smell good, and what doesn't smell good is rotten somewhere. To top it off, when I told my financial advisor this past June I was concerned about the market and to put everything I had in conservative investments, I got the argument that his Pres. had said 2009 would be a banner year, meaning I should be taking more risk. I'm not saying I such a smarty, quite the contrary. I'm not.

So, back to Jon Stewart. He does look at all of these signals carefully and from a more educated place that most of us, and came up with the idea that a financial news television network didn't get this, when he and uninformed people like me did. Conservative or liberal doesn't come into play here, guys. It's a man with a conscience taking CNBC to task about doing what they advertise. Thanks, Jon.

On this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agmER0pjP7c
Bill O’reilly has a Theory that Jon Stewart criticizes Jim Cramer because he criticized President Obama. At 1:38 to 1:45 Bill O’reilly says: - You see Cramer was doing this stuff, when everything fall apart, last fall, and the daily show didn´t go after him.

That is not true, Bill is wrong! Daily show made fun of Jim Cramer last fall, the same day Bear Stearns Collapsed.

On March 11, 2008 on Mad Money with Jim Cramer, a viewer ask the question, if he should be worried about Bear Stearns in term of liquidity and get his money out of there.
Jim Cramer answers: no! no!, no!, no! Bear Stearns is fine! Do not take your money out.

6 days later on March 17 2008, Bear Stearns collapse and at the same date: March 17, 2008: on a segment called: Broken Arrow, on the Daily show, Jon Stewart goes after Jim Cramer and makes fun of what he said on his program March 11, 2008. See link below to the video at the daily shows website: Jon Stewart start to make fun of Jim Cramer at 4:45. (see link below)

So Bill O’reilly is wrong about that the Dailyshow didn´t go after Jim Cramer March 17, 2008 when Bear Stearns collapsed. So Bills theory that Jon Stewart goes after Jim Cramer about Bear Stearns because he criticized President Obama at 2009 is impossible.

Bill O’reilly is just a man who talks before he thinks and he doesn’t care to check if his facts are correct. That´s not very smart, and he is once again wrong.

I like it when Jon Stewart gets serious; I think most people do. I'm glad he set his sights on the greatest threat to free people all over the world--Central Bankers and their Servants. One Wall Street mouthpiece was a good place to START but he shouldn't rest his hat on it. There's a lot more where that came from.

Joking about real issues is great, to a point. But like he said--this isn't a f*cking game. All our problems (Wall St.'s included) are symptoms of a greater evil that real journalists have a DUTY to reveal.

@Stewart a/k/a Obama Whore ,
"Does Obama Whore read critical viewer comments on his show ?"
No, John Stewart does not read viewer comments on his show. Why would he? You think you write funny material? While you appear to be stupid enough to be funny, you're more funny as a caricature of stupid.

"Name one of the vast universe of liberal tv commentators that do."
OK. Please identify half of the vast universe.
pssst, WINGNUT, the Daily Show is a comedy show.

"You believe in ridiculing and silencing critics"
I believe in making fun of WINGNUTS and MOONBATS - - - cuz they're funny. You, on the other hand, don't ridicule, cuz "Obama Whore" is a compliment in your mind. :-D

"Conservatives on tv initiated the practice of reading critical viewer input on the air."
Aren't the bloggotubes wonderful? Here you can say whatever you want and nobody calls you on it. One doesn't need to use facts, cuz, as we all know (thanks to Steven Colbert), reality has a LIBERAL bias. :-D

Stewart's interview with Cramer was ace ! Finally the lid was off, the gloves were off and people got to see that not only the finance sector but also it's media whores were not 'led astray' or 'misguided' but deliberately and with malice of forethought taking them for the ride of their lives ! Funny as hell to watch and long overdue in my opinion !
As for those who left comments about Stewart the coward and him not lifting the lid on this sooner. The public weren't willing to accept it sooner for one thing and more importantly Jon Stewart is a comedian guys - why does he have more responsibility than so -called 'News' programmes and Finance programmes huh? Is the world in such a sorry state that we really can fool ourselves into blaming a comedian ( who professes to being nothing more THAN a comedian) for not being the chief denouncer of flawed and immoral finance practices??? and the chief enforcer of change ? That was a rhetorical question by the way because, depressingly, I already know the answer and the other comments posted here do nothing more than confirm my suspicion !

Thanks to blogger Jon Stewart - Obama Whore for pointing out that the White House complimented Jon's repeated criticisms of Cramer. For a so called independent commentator, that's a bit too close for me. I found the AP story myself. For different reasons, I am a fan of both Jon and Cramer. If Jon wants to appeal to independents like me, he needs to be one.

Mr. Boy Scout

Does Obama Whore read critical viewer comments on his show ? Name one of the vast universe of liberal tv commentators that do. Never have. Never will. You believe in ridiculing and silencing critics - just as Obama Whore did with Cramer . Conservatives on tv initiated the practice of reading critical viewer input on the air. They generally tend to welcome criticism and open debate. Liberals don't.

They generally tend to welcome criticism and open debate. Liberals don't.

I'm with you on this one "Obama Whore." Jon's motivation is quite simple: Cramer criticized the big O. The totalitarianism of the left.

The social and racial lending programs you mentioned were actually legally MANDATED by liberals like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank in congress. Same Chris Dodd who as Senate Finance Chair wrote the wall street bailout legislation last October. That was after he became the biggest recipient of Fannie Mae contributions, but before he received a sweetheart personal deal from Fannie. Incredible, but don't expect Jon to cover this news. Especially since the Big O was a Big Fannie recipient too.

There are shades of Clinton in the "95" deregulation. Republicans supported the dereg too and the free market. Also, Bush campaigned on record minority home ownership in 2004. Anyone not blinded by ideology can see lots of blame. Lots of diverse blame to go around here - not so with Jon's politics. Still a funny guy though.

If the Daily Show is 'liberal' and you are an example of the opposite of liberal, then you are part of the IDIOT wing, right?

ps. The KING of subprime mortgages, Countrywide's Mozilo, gave much more money to Republicans than lefto Dems

Not only is Stewart an intellectual coward for not allowing viewer comments on his web site or show (come to think of it none of the left does), but now that none other than the White House praises his steadfast defense of Obama, he is officially Comedy Central's Chief Obama whore. His abuse of satire in a partisan pursuit notwithstanding, the hypocracy going so hard after Cramer (a fellow Obama supporter gone astray) while excluding all those in the left that got us into unsound and racially-motivated sub prime lending practices is just ice on the cake. But, so predictable.

Thank-you Jon Stewart and the Daily Show team for the piece with Cramer.
FINALLY, some questions got asked!

im(not so)ho, this interview is worthy of Emmy, Pulitzer, Peabody.

And thank-you Jim Cramer for having the balls to show up. Cramer's still a clown in my book, but of all the bloviating idiots from his network, he at least showed up and apologized.

Again, best interview of the year on the most important topic of the year. GREAT JOB!!

oh, of course i LMFAO. :-D

John,
(a letter for editorial submission to the Seattle Times)

I am upset with Cramer, but I am more upset with John Stewart. Months back Cramer said you’d be crazy to stay in the market, but if you’re going to buy and sell, this is what I think…. But, he’s inside the market, and if he started to expose everything he saw, he’d have been extricated within weeks. Michael Lewis says, if CEO’s tried reforming they’d be replaced in months for not keeping up with competitor’s ‘profit margins’. Same with Cramer, he’s part of the beast, just doing his job--making market analysis entertaining.

I’m more upset with ‘outsider’ Stewart. Like NPR, he could have invited Michael Lewis (Panic: The Story of Modern Financial Insanity) to the show. His books have been out there for decades. No one wanted to read them because things were going too well. A few left the industry decades ago to expose the type of financial products being crafted and sold. If NPR brought these guys to the table, why didn’t Stewart? He’s the professional whistle-blower, not Cramer.

Since 1999 Harry Markopoulos filed over seven letters with the SEC (some public) accusing Madoff of running a ponzi scheme. The beast was too big and the spirit of greed, making money on pure speculation, was insurmountable. Nothing was going down until the whole beast fell. The same dynamic was active in Nazi Germany and every other socialized community, even churches. You rock the boat…you affect everyone’s security and wealth around you…you will be expended.

Cramer and everyone in the industry are culpable, but like a fish in water they are the last to see the water. I am a Stewart fan, but if NPR was exposing this last summer, where was he? Like most others, he didn’t want to see it.

I applaud you Jon!
Until right-wingers stop watching the garbage by the likes of these networks, FOX, CNN, Cramer, Rush L, and the hatred and lies they spew out all for the sake of entertainment, we'll never learn to grow as a species and continue to climb the latter of what we think is success, all the while stepping on the rest - those that work hard for an honest living.

Most people don't understand why we're at this point. I work in finance so I've been able to see it from both sides. You can't blame just one person or institution. The government, finance co's, and consumers share some fault in the matter. I wouldn't put as much fault on consumers because as I said before "most people don't understand" and I don't mean that as a diss. I work in banking and sometimes I don't get it either. You have the removal of 80/20 meaning that you'd have to put up 20% to buy a home. You have banks doing interest only for a short term loans. Consumers accepting loans that they can't afford once the interest only or adjustable rate term is over. Consumers giving false information to get loans they can't afford. Bank employees submitting false information to get loans closed to make commission. Banks not monitoring loans possibly submitted fraudulently by Mgt brokers. Banks giving loans to people with poor credit but banking on a high mortage market if the home does go into foreclosure. Then banks selling the loans in packets of derivatives to other banks and investment houses. Couple that with other factors in the economy and we've ended up with a mess.

Great job. Thank you. But it's only a first step. How about chasing down the guys that actually TOOK my MONEY? You know, Cheney's buddies, who are laughing their collective, bloated white asses off right now. Especially knowing that the dems would bat cleanup for their mess. It's time to go duck hunting dude, and I'll drive the pickup truck! (you buy the beer)

Wait a minute, isn't the bottom line here that it should be and was the PEOPLES OWN CHOICE to buy or sell or refinance or accept a bad mortgage deal?

Why is Jim Cramer the scapegoat? Did he hold a gun to these peoples collective heads? What happened to personal responsibility and accountability?

Just because Jim Cramer smaks a few buttons woth funny sounds and runs around like a chicken with no head....doesn't mean that YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT HE SAYS.

It is fully their own prerogative to take whatever action they like. If you are going to hold Cramer to account for ALL the woes of Wall Street, doesn't that seem a little embellished to you? It does to me. It smacks of the same sensationalism broadcast over ALL CABLE channels, news or otherwise.

You cannot seriously believe that you are getting the NEWS in an accurate and unbiased way when you are watching Dimitri or Samatha B (I LOVE YOU) doing their skits. Jon's monologue and interviews are the same thing. Even if he is asking serious questions, the context is of a COMEDY SHOW.

Come on people, wake up! Let the cable guys talk their way to the ratings and let the news guys do their thing....and let Cramer do his. It is not Jon Stewart's job to be serious about anything. He, like Colbert and others, is there to get a rise or "NAIL" the person opposite him.

WE ALL KNOW THIS.

No matter how accurate he might be, the context is still within a comedy show and should be considered as such.

Cramer has a lot of good ideas....and a lot of bad ones. AS ALL the talking heads on many channels (not just cnbc) do.

Do you listen to Ed McMahon when he tells you to reverse your mortgage? Or to that guy from Happy Days selling you life insurance?

IT IS THE SAME THING

Why doesn't Jon NAIL - RON POPIEL - the guy who sells 500 knives and an over and umteen other items? Because it is not flashy enough, that's why.

I'm done....what do you all think?

No matter how much you dislike someone they ALWAYS must have a fair hearing. This was a horrid, one sided interview because JS always has the "I'm a comedian I don't have to answer any charges" card to play when the focus is on him. Cramer is a douche, but he's also a scapegoat.
