52055231CA351_candyIn response to NASA naming a space-treadmill C.O.L.B.E.R.T., a couple people have left comments pointing out other online naming contests. There was a baby elephant at the Columbus Zoo, but we just missed the deadline, so we'll have to pool all of our efforts into this one:

The NBA D-League’s newest franchise in New England has been going by “NBA Springfield” following its successful launch at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame on March 31. University of Massachusetts head coach Derek Kellogg, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and NBA D-League President Dan Reed were among the speakers at the launch, which generated considerable excitement in the place where basketball got its start.

Now the floor is turned over to the community and the team’s upstart fan base, which will have the opportunity to have their collective voices heard in creating an identity for the franchise.

That's right, the NBA is holding an online vote to name their new D-league franchise in Springfield, MA. They have some suggestions like Armor and Founders, but they're also allowing write-in votes. So, come on, let's name a D-league NBA team the Springfield Colberts.
