Over the weekend I saw Spinal Tap: Unwigged and Unplugged, the live tour featuring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer. I have to admit, going into it I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, I like the movie This Is Spinal Tap a lot, but I also really like The Cosby Show, that doesn't mean I want Bill Cosby to deliver my babies. But it turns out maybe I do want Bill Cosby to deliver my babies, because the Spinal Tap live show was a lot of fun.
It was actually less of a straight-up Spinal Tap concert and more of a Storytellers kind of deal. They showed some videos, took audience questions and did a couple bits. They also played songs from A Mighty Wind and some of their other projects, which was cool. I guess the bottom line is, you should see the tour if you have the opportunity, and I'm the world's greatest concert reviewer.
Oh, the reason for the tour is the new Spinal Tap record Back from the Dead, which will be available next Tuesday. Along with the tour, they're promoting the album with a free mp3 of "Saucy Jack" on their website and a YouTube channel with a ton of new videos. You can see one after the jump.
