Remembering USO shows, seeing the Bob Hope ones annually on TV, and seeing "The Colbert Report" broadcasts from the Palace with Stephen wielding a golf club in tribute to the great Bob Hope, made me want to encouragfe Stephen to do at least annual USO shows with our troops. Of course the shows bring such welcome relief and a "little bit of home" into combat zones to veterans, especially for those pulling multiple tours, but Stephen's clever comedy brings most important issues to us all...whether "Victory" can be declared, whether gays should serve our military, and whether our idea of democracy will carry through elsewhere. perhaps allowing fun aloing with freedom.
When I can, I use my alpacas, Stephen Colbert being one, to imitate some of what Colbert the human does, in hopes of bringing higher tribute and awareness to his shows, especially these terrific ones from Iraq. So my Colbert-the-alpaca had his hair cut as well as ordered by our local "Commander in Chief," Mayor Tom Katsanis of Lake Placid. It was a good ceremony, many flag waving participants chanting "USA. USA" through the rural America recreation of the "Colbert Cut."
Anyway, as a former paratrooper and Vietnam Era spokesperson, I encourage Colbert to do more shows, particulary near Christmas, with our troops in the field.

Mr. Colbert,

Your show was a hit with us. I, as a more seasoned Soldier, am one of the few left in the military today that have had the honor to actually see Bob Hope's last USO show in Souel, So. Korea in 1988. I believe you have a simular connection with the troops and I for one would encourage you to consider continuing that association. I know that the troops would appreciate and enjoy having you entertain them. Please give it some consideration. We are still talking about it here in the Palace. Thank you for coming.

Respectfully,

Jim Brown
