Hey now, I love the Lips and the Mountain Goats. I will not say "equally" simply because only in his wettest of dreams could Wayne Coyne match talents with John Darnielle. Have you HEARD the new Lips? Damn man, it put me to sleep. At War With the Mystics does not deserve to be followed by that crap. Whereas the new Goats is a series of pastiches similar to what you might get if Cat Stevens decided to strip a bunch of TS Eliot poems of all their pretentious metaphors and bang a guitar to them–on the same day his mother died and his wife left him. Only way better than that. And none of their albums are the "exception", they all rock equally, all the way back to the late eighties. Life-changing stuff if you possess a soul. John and the Mountain Goats truly are one of the most profound groups ever, and if you cannot grasp this, go cry and put on your Aqua records, you barbie girl. Man, that felt good.

The Mountain Goats actually sound like the dying cries of real mountain goats. Not music, but it catches your attention for a few seconds before you realize that it's a horrible sound and should not be listened to.
