Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin To Host Liberal Hollywood's Pat On the Back Awards (The Oscars)
Yay! We did it! USA! USA! Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be hosting the Oscars.
After the Academy increased its best picture category to 10 films and tapped a pair of producers, it announced that there will be two hosts for the 82nd annual Academy Awards — Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin — the first time the show has had multiple hosts since the 1987 ceremonies.
First of all, when I read "tapped a pair of producers," I like to think the Academy had sex with a pair of producers. Because of how I am ten years old.
To the heart of the matter, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are very cool, and I'm super excited. We already knew Ricky Gervais was hosting the Emmys and now this? I might actually have to even sit through the boring awards (i.e. all of them).
And multiple hosts? Let's party like it's 1987! You know who the hosts where in 1987? Chevy Chase (very good), Goldie Hawn (awesome) and Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee?! Okay, whatever, 1987!) I think to re-live that magic they should get Kangaroo Jack on board.
As excited as I am for this, I have to remember, I am a New York liberal Jew Hispanic kid (that's a stereotype, right?). My tastes aren't the tastes of the Bible-lovin', beer-swillin' heartland (who LOVED Hugh Jackman).
The show in 2001 [which Steve Martin hosted]… lost millions of viewers for the first time in four years. Even more of its audience fled in 2005, making the show the least watched and lowest rated telecast since auds were measured in 1974, until the 80th ceremony established a new low point in 2008.
Who cares about ratings, right? What's important is that I am happy. Keep me happy, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and I'll give you a ton of free publicity on my Twitter.
