stephen_lynch_v9Stephen Lynch has enjoyed a fruitful and diverse career as a comedian thus far. He has released four successful comedy albums and earned Tony Award nominations for his work in the Broadway adaptation of The Wedding Singer. It then is frustrating for those of us who get DVDs caught in our players and Chipotle on our shirts on a daily basis (Oh? Just me?) to hear Stephen talk so modestly about his career when asked about it.

"I didn't set out to become a comedian. I still don't think I have a real knack for it. I just happen to have found this really small window of opportunity that allows me to play music and use whatever skills I have at being funny."

He went on to say:

"To me, the music is as important as the comedy," he said. "Probably more important, because I have no real interest in comedy. I like music."

That's not what we want to hear, Stephen! We want to believe that you've been sent to us by God solely to sing to us about things like hermaphrodites and Jesus' brother, Craig — not that you believe your real talents and interests lay elsewhere. Don't pull a Michael Jordan on us. We don't want to believe that a man as talented in comedy as you could be doing it practically effortlessly and without awareness, or that a man as talented as you could actually be even more talented in other areas. Because then, Stephen, what does that leave us, the untalented men and women with Chipotle on our shirts? Even more shame!

I'm going to have to eat another burrito to get over this. And I'd watch a DVD too if Roadhouse wasn't already stuck in there. But for those of you who do feel like getting out of the house and getting inspired by an awesomely funny, talented, and modest man, catch Stephen on the remainder of his 3 Balloons Tour.

Clips of the aforementioned hermaphrodite and Jesus' brother bits can be found after the jump.
