US Speedskating Gets the Colbert Bump at the World Cup

Well, that didn't take long. Less than a week after the Colbert Nation became the sponsors of the US Speedskating team, more than $200,000 has been raised, and the team were the victors at the recent World Cup of Speedskating. At this rate, the team won't just take gold at the Olympics, they'll start winning championships in other sports. Then they'll start winning at sports that don't even exist. My prediction for next year's Pantsball World Series? US Speedskating in five.

The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

There is only one true ice-skating country in the world
The Netherlands
Dear Stephen Colbert: We at The Vancouver Observer are very concerned about your plans to attempt to enter Canada after calling us "syrup-suckers" and "ice-holes" on your show. Are you aware of what befell your friend, Amy Goodman, at the border? Plus, Richmond is not what you think. For your own good, we beseech you, read http://www.vancouverobserver.com/politics/commentary/2009/12/08/syrup-suckers-beg-stephen-colbert-watch-his-back-when-crossing-canada
Stephen, if you need a place to stay in Whistler for the Olympics, my son has two weeks reserved condo that sleeps 4, across the street from the Village entrance. The week prior to opening day and the full 1st week. call 509-674-9106.
can you do this for cross country skiing too?
Amy Goodwin got stopped at the Canadian border a day or two ago, and was frisked, her computer was read, and she was asked for her notes on a lecture she was giving that night to sell her new book. Amy Goodman is one of the prime reporters for Democracy Now. During the detention, the border guards asked what she would be speaking about, and as she gave the litany of topics, they seemed unsettled. Finally, they asked her, "What about the Olympics?" They wanted to know if she was going to say anything about the upcoming Olympics — she thought they meant when Obama went to bid for the Olympics in Chicago, but no, they wanted to know if she was going to say anything about the Olympics, in Vancouver. She could find no reason for this hold-up, but I say HEY COLBERT NATION — looks like Canada's feeling pretty darn defensive now. My guess is this is directly related to the Colbert Report's deep delving and truth telling regarding practice times and track usage. Go to Democracy Now and read her recent article on Canada's daffy detainment.
apes!
Kennedy
Google it and smarten up.
Kennedy,
Get your facts straight, Google wintersport.suite101.com (#6) why there are no Olympic women ski jumpers: Disappointed Female…..IOC overrules Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms……The world champion, 24-year-old American Lindsey Van holds the female world record, flying 171 meters. At one of the ski jumping sites that will be used in the 2010 Olympic games, the K-90 hill at Whistler, Lindsey Van set the overall distance record for either sex. Not sexist and against Rights and Freedoms, pretty scary stuff?????? Maybe she could ski jump with the GUYS?????
Hey last person that posted,
From my understanding, as a Vancouver local, womens' ski jump isn't included because there aren't enough participants and was stated as being hoped to be included in the next winter Olympics. Sounds reasonable to me. Say it with me now, "It's not sexist when it's practical." There. Much better.
I agree with the Colbert complaint re speed skaters use of Vancouver's Olympic skating oval located in Richmond. Lotsa other complaints too. Another point of interest is that the Canadian female ski jumpers just recently went to court because all female ski jumpers are not allowed to enter the 5 ring circus (Owelympics) and believe it or not they lost their case and are uncertain if they can appeal. It is a very costly court system here in B.C. HELP! please if you can because all female ski jumpers are banned. So much for our Constitution and gender equality. B.C. long ago became a dictatorship under the red rule of the B.C. 'Liberals" ruled over by Gordon Campbell. You may recall him – he is the convicted drunk driver felon who was convicted in 2003 of driving drunk, (speeding from one shoulder of the road to the other) in Hawaii, yes, U.S.A. He is a 'Canadian' embarrassment. Hope you get as much time as Canada as should all competing countries. There won't be any records set for skating likely, due to the B.C. Liberals' decision to build it below sea level in Richmond. Not only is it sinking but will continue to sink and I believe the ice cannot be made hard enough because of it's location.
GOOD LUCK IN THE MEN'S SPEED SKATING. NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS BUT I HOPE CANADA COMES IN LAST AND THE U.S.A. COMES FIRST.
Thankyou for bringing this out in the open. I hope the whole world knows this is going on here.
hey Colbert nation,
as a proud Vancouverite, Canadian, and avid Colbert Report viewer, I'd like to invite Stephen Colbert to join us here in Van City to watch us syrup sucking Canadians kick some Yankee butt. OK, I really don't follow speedskating to be honest, like most Canadians I'm more concerned about our hockey team, but dammit, the Dutch are going to be hosting a big party near the Oval at Heinken house, and it's gonna be good times here…Come on, you went to Iraq, how bad can Canada be?
Nicolle, according to what Stephen said this evening on Letterman, over $250,000 has been raised.
I am very interested on knowing how much has been contributed to the speedskating team by the Colbert Nation. Could you post a counter or ticker of sorts to allow we contributors to see our progress??
