51472337Famous mountaineer George Leigh Mallory once, upon being asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest in 1923, resolutely answered, "Because it's there." What a bold and romantic statement — one of which stands as a testament to our human need to explore and test our limits.

Why go to the moon? Because it's there. Why swim across the English Channel? Because it's there. Why insert a toy car into your rectum and go to the hospital to get it x-rayed, only to tell the puzzled doctor that it must have happened at the frat party the night before? Because it's there, obviously.

The world's most prolific challengers of human endurance (better known as the boys of Jackass, but let us not detract from their accomplishments) are back. Or at least so it seems. While speaking with a Finnish magazine, Jackass member Bam Margera said that the filming of a third Jackass film was set to begin in January 2010. But the series may have a new twist the third time around. It has been discovered that Paramount Pictures has recently purchased the web address Jackass3D.com, leading one to believe that this third installment could very well be shot in 3D.

Why would the Jackass team go through the monumental effort of filming their new film using 3D technology? Because it's there. And why would you go to the theater to see Johnny Knoxville getting hit in the nuts with an absurdly heavy object? Because, in spite of owning a copy of The Unbearable Lightness of Being in both book and DVD form, you are not above laughing at a well-executed shot to the groin. And also, obviously, because it's there, at your local theater. Or at least, I pray, it might be.
