Jon Stewart: "The American People" Is a Meaningless Phrase
You know how when you say "zebra" over and over again in your head, eventually the word loses all of its meaning and you're like, "What the fuck is a zebra again? Are zebras the things I wear on my feet or is a zebra the thing I pee with?" That's called semantic satiation (incidentally also the name of my new folk funk fusion band), and as Jon Stewart pointed out on last night's Daily Show, the politicians in this country are doing a great job of semantically satiating the phrase "the American people."
Be sure to check out Jon's extended interview with Newsweek editor Jon Meacham over at Indecision.
The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.
